FAQ

Q: What do I need to use S-PEAK M6 Touch device?

A:

Q: Can I use other materials than Swell Touch Paper (or similar), and felt & strings & beads to create embossed sheets?

A: Other kind of materials could be also used, that allow the embossed sheets to be flexible and relatively thin, so that the touch pressure will be distributed only in the underlying area. In other case, when the user presses an hot item in the embossed sheet, an adjacent hot item could be triggered, and a false audio recording will be played.

How to create a teaching material

  • This starts with the idea of that teaching material.
  • Choose how to make the embossed sheet:
    • Simple sheet – Simple embossed sheet made of Swell Touch Paper;
    • BC sheet – Embossed sheet used for Board games or Crosswords, made of Swell Touch Paper (with holes for Braille letter/token and pins stuck under the sheet).
    • FSB sheet – Embossed sheet made using felt, strings and beads.
  • Using AB Editor software, the user creates and binds all the information needed
    • Edit the document, placing Braille or normal text (label) and graphic elements: lines and shapes (rectangle, ellipse, or irregular polygon)
    • Create a closed polygon around each item on the chart (with associated audio recordings). In use, when the user presses within that polygon (area) of the sheet, the corresponding audio recording is played.
    • Record/edit up to 4 audio files (A, B, C and D) for each item in the embossed sheet.
    • Link each audio file to the corresponding polygon.
    • Generate and copy files to micro SD memory of the M6 Touch device.
    • Generate the .pdf file for the document.
  • Create the embossed sheet, depending of its letter:
    • Simple embossed sheet:
      • Print the .pdf file on Swell Touch Paper.
      • Thermal process the Swell Touch Paper, to emboss it.

      • Print the .pdf file on Swell Touch Paper.
      • Thermal process the Swell Touch Paper, to emboss it.
      • Laser cut the holes in the embossed sheet using the .dxf file (by an external service provider – laser cut workshop).
      • Stick a pin under each text label with associated audio recording.
    • Embossed sheet made using felt, strings and beads (for maps, charts, etc.):
      • Print the .pdf file on paper (normal paper, polypropylene paper, Swell Touch Paper, etc.), including the polygons if necessary.
      • Cut by hand or laser cut the shapes of the embossed items from: (self-adhesive) felt or other materials.
      • Stick or glue the embossed items on the sheet.
      • Glue the beads and strings on the sheet.
