This map is made of felt and foam sheets. For example, the abrasive surface of the green foam represents the Black Sea. The silky beige felt represents the plains. The plateaus are thin yellow felt. The mountains are the next two steps of thicker felt – orange and brown, corresponding to their heights. The neighboring countries are only printed on the flat and smooth polypropylene paper, which is flexible and more durable than usual paper.

The borders between countries could be made of string. Also, cities, mountain peaks, etc. can be marked with beads.

The blind / visually impaired user can feel different textures and different thicknesses of the felt, foam and paper, corresponding to different forms of relief. He / she could easily feel the strings, that is, boundaries between states.

There are recorded two audio files for each item:

  1. The name of the mountain, plain, state, river, sea, etc.
  2. A short geographical description of that mountain, plain, river, etc.

The user presses each item on the map and hears the name of that mountain, plain, plateau, sea, river, country, border between states, etc.

Games

“Show me” game could be played using the “A” audio recordings. The device asks the user to touch named mountains, plains, plateaus, rivers, sea, states, etc.

The document is created using S-PEAK AB Editor software.
